Interpretive Center at Calvin College Ecosystem Preserve, Grand Rapids, Michigan
- This 5,000 s.f. educational space includes passive lighting and automated
passive cooling, a computerized environmental control system, radiant floor
heating, ventilation controlled by occupancy sensors and a photovoltaic power
system projected to supply 60% of the building's annual electricity needs. Multiple
water conservation strategies include a soil- and plant-based grey water treatment
system for all sink water and composting toilets which use minimal water.
